This series is the work of Ferdinand Stuflesser from Ortisei, Italy a village high up in the Italian Dolomites. The Stuflesser family have been master carvers since the 1600's, passing on the skill of their craft from generation to generation. This is not a machine made series, but a one of a kind carving completely executed and decorated by hand, different from those catalog carvings that are produced in quantity. The Stuflesser family has been producing religious statuary for the Chartrand family for one hundred years. Their works are found in churches throughout Europe and the United States, with examples of their work in Westminster Abbey as well as numerous cathedrals and churches in many states.
Note the expertly carved facial details, the fingers and hands, the positions of each figure.
The master carver's skill is shown in the finely chiseled features, hair and eyes.
The completed statues have been delicately painted in traditional colors, light enough to let the beauty of the had chiseled details show through.
This will become a treasure to be enjoyed for many years, a prayerful means of emphasizing the true meaning of the Christmas season.
